HOW TO USE AN ELECTRIC CHAINSAW

An Electric Chainsaw is a chainsaw with an electric cord. It operates with direct electricity.  The Electric Chainsaw is used for the pruning of trees or cutting of fallen ones and to cut firebreak during wildland fire suppression. An electric chainsaw works with the use of the teeth (chain) attached to a bar. The chain moves in a rotating manner around the bar whenpowered by electric power sources therefore producing the force to cut the wood or other items.

There are two main types of chainsaws, the gas powered and the electric chainsaw. The gas powered chainsaw uses gas to power the chainsaw. The Electric Chainsaw use of electricity as power point. An Electric chainsaw is available for purchase from a local store or online stores like Amazon and other related stores.

COMPARISON OF AN ELECTIRIC AND GAS CHAINSAWS

ELECTRIC CHAINSAW
GAS CHAINSAW
1
Limited to home use
It is used at home and in the woods
2
Low price point
High Price Point
3
Low maintenance cost: Limited to Oil and part replacement.
High Maintenance cost: Fuel, Oil and Part Replacement
4
Used for light and medium sized lumbering or cutting
A Gas chainsaw can cut any type or size of wood.
5
Neighbor Friendly
No fumes and little noise
Not neighbor friendly as it creates lots of noise and release fumes.

Electric Chainsaw is ideal for use around the house where power supply is available. An extension cord attached to the electric chainsaw increase the distance away from power source. The extension cord length ranges from 10 feet length to a hundred feet.

A new electric chainsaw packet contains three major items: the body of the chainsaw, the chain and a bar. A replacement bar or chain may be available in the package as well.

INSTALLATION PROCESS
  • 1Read the instruction manual carefully and follow it to assemble the Electric Chainsaw
  • 2Attach the Bar to the body of the machine
  • 3Install the chain on the bar while ensuring it is facing the right direction. If not, the chainsaw will not work properly.
  • 4The oil container is filled with the manufacturer’s recommended oil to the exact gauge written in the instruction manual.
  • 5Check that the electric socket is RCD (Residual Current Device) compliant guaranteeing safety for external use.
  • 6Ensure power voltage and energy specification of the device are compatible with the power source.
  • 7Test the machine to ensure the chain is properly installed and machine is working well.

USAGE PROCEDURE
  •  Select the right Electric Chainsaw to perform the expected task.
  • Check the chain saw for sharpness and adjust chain tension
  • Check the oil gauge every time before use. Check oil gauge every hour during the period of extensive use and refill as needful.
  • Operator should use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ensure the face, ears, head, hands, legs and feet are covered by the PPEs. A trouser chap is ideal for use for the legs.
  • Secure the electric chainsaw tightly to the power source
  • Both hands are required to operate the electric chainsaw, one hand on the handle and the other at the base of the device.
  • Push the safety gear and press the appropriate buttons to start the Electric chainsaw.
  • The Electric chainsaw starts working and chain running in the right direction then it is applied on the object (wood or metal) using the correct cutting technique.
  • Operator must focus on the machine at all times.
  • Hard surface or points may inhibit the machine from working well and could lead to a kickback. A kickback is a situation where the chainsaw tip hit a hard surface that it is not able to cut through and the resistance results in the bar moving backwards towards the operator). A kickback is mitigated by cutting with the chains closest to the handle of the machine to ensure operator has control of the machine.
An Electric chainsaw is a good machine to have, easy to use with focus on safety. It is cost effective when compared with the use of a gardener or calling home repair to cut down fallen tree in your compound. It is easy to maintain and cost effective. It is a ready-to-go machine on days of emergencies.
